Allusionist live in Sydney
Chauvel Cinema Paddington (map) | Wednesday, July 27, 2022, 7pm - 8pm

Returning to Australia for the first time since their sold-out tour of 2019, the award-winning entertainment podcast The Allusionist (UK) is back with an all new stage show.

Helen Zaltzman and house band Martin Austwick perform a new show called Your Name Here. It’s all about eponyms, full of facts and fun, and with some probably regrettable musical numbers. And there’s a special Allusionist pencil included with every ticket.

The venue is Chauvel Cinema and tickets are on sale HERE.

The show might have a few swears in it but broadly is suitable for children, depending on what you think your children will not be bored by.

Do us all a favour and wear a mask if you are able to, to keep that covid out of everyone’s pipes.

The Wheeler Centre presents: Red Light/Green Light
May, 2022

We all know the importance of teaching consent and respect in the classroom. But what does the language of consent actually sound like? What are the green lights that signal respect and consent in relationships (and the red lights that don’t)?

Tender is an award-winning podcast that thoughtfully explores the way that women reconstruct their lives and identities after leaving abusive relationships. Through the intimacy of audio storytelling, each season follows one woman’s journey as she gradually comes to know herself again, and reclaims her right to tell her own story in her own words.

In these special incursions, producers of Tender, Bethany Atkinson-Quinton and Madison Griffiths, will lead two 90-minute workshops in each participating school. Teens will have the chance to share their stories and ideas in audio recordings that will be edited by Bethany and Madison to make up a special episode of Tender, which will be released through the Wheeler Centre and Tender.

These workshops may contain discussion of sensitive subjects such as abuse, and are recommended for students in years 10 & 11. Please contact Youth Programming Manager Bec Kavanagh to enquire about booking: bec.kavanagh@wheelercentre.com

Poetics & Pain: The Recovery Script at National Young Writers Festival
Newcastle City Library | October 4, 2019

This podcast workshop teaches participants how to write safely, sensitively and expressively about complex and painful situations. Broadwave podcast Tender, has been praised for how atmospheric it is: how the musical score is used, sound effects, cultural references and organic prose to write holistically about abuse without skimming over ugly and malign experiences. Capturing a sense of hope while remaining candid is a complex and sensitive process that requires deliberation, self-reflection and the permission to delve into unlikable places.
